The pf is the reason ,as ac power output of alternator is
=Kvaxpf whereas the pf of dc motor is always unity and Kva
=Kw

generally, the rating of any machine is decide by losses of
that machine depends on what factor.losses in gen. are
depend only on generated voltage & gen. current. so rating
of gen. is in kva.
in dc motor losses are depend on voltage & current and this
losses are also depend on application of dc motor i.e power
factor of load which is connected to that dc motor. so
rating of dc motor is in kw.

generally in case of generator n motor d rating shows d output power....in generator we get electrical energy as output having both active n reactive power.so its better 2 show in kva rating.....bt in case of motor we get mechanical power as output.....so it is represented as kw not kva............am i right???????????

Answer / sukesh
as we know that rating of any machine is decided by its temp
rise.temp rise due to the presence of losses in the t/f.
2 losses are there .one is iron loss and other one copper loss.
\iron loss depends on voltage.(v.i).
cu-loss depends on current.(i2.r).
so rating of t/f as well as generator both is in kva.
and for dc motor see the reply of HEMRAJ.

Answer / sathishkumar
generator is a source and the losses only due to current
(iron loss) and voltage (copper loss) so there is no power
factor involved so capacity is P=V*I in terms of KVA.
where as in motor there is either inductive load(laaging
P.F)or capacitive load(leading P.F)involved so capacity is
P=V*I*power factor i.e interms of KW.

in gen. losses depend on voltage and current thus its rating is given in KVA.
but in dc motor the losses depend on voltage, current and power factor thus its rating is given in KW.

Answer / man
the load of generator is always a mechanical load which do
not bring about any appreciable change in the power
factor.hence its rating is in KVA.where as in motor the load
is electrical load and it brings about change in power factor
so its rating is in KW.
