how gradation of aggregates effect on slump of fresh concrete?..

Answer / Mohammad Mohsin

The gradation of aggregates (the distribution of particles by size) affects the workability and strength of fresh concrete. A more compact aggregate gradation results in a lower slump, while a less compact one leads to a higher slump:

1. Compact aggregate gradation - Fewer fines (smaller particles) result in less water required for workability, producing a lower slump and denser concrete mix. This is beneficial for structures where high strength and durability are prioritized, such as foundations or columns.
2. Less compact aggregate gradation - Higher amounts of fines make the mixture more fluid, increasing the slump and easing placement in formwork. However, this also reduces the concrete's strength and makes it more susceptible to segregation (separation of particles).
