Isolator is a switch which cant do the breaker function.
Breaker can trip very high voltage with provided arc
quenching ability.

Basically isolator is an switch manually used to on or off
the circuit.but the bracker have many safty as short
circuit,earth folt,over load,under voltage & over voltage.

The isolators are manually operated switches rated for different voltages and current and selected as per application. The isolators are of two types:
Off Load Isolator and On Load Isolators.
Off Load Isolators cannot be used to break the circuit on load, so it is provided with some mechanical or electrical interlock to avoid on load breaking, otherwise it may be dangerous for operator and the equipment.
On Load Isolator can be used to break the circuit on load but cannot substitute the Breaker.
The Breakers have remote operating features with many in built protections and so many add on protections with high breaking and making capacity.
Hence Isolator cannot be used as Breaker.

sir , what happen if we decrease ( approx 3 inch ) the lenth of shaft in 110KW Induction , three phase motor. actually a 110KW motor is couppled with star couplling to 120TR compressor. When we doing maintenance in compressor it is required to skid the motor backword and resulting dis- alightnment . so we want to change the tyre coupling in place of existing coupling. so it is required to cut off the rotor aprox 3 inch form driving side.
what are the safety of chiller.
