HT motors are generally connected in star, what will be the
effect if we connect HT motor in Delta?

Answer / iamdon
star coonection reduces the voltage appering across each
phase by root 3 times. It means we need to design the
insulation for lower voltage which is economical. Also due
to reduced voltage reduced currrent will flow through
winding so less loss so less heating of winding so less
cooling requirement for keep the temperature rise within
limit.
All these beauty will lost in delta connection. So delta is
not preferred..

If we are connecting the HT motor in Star, the starting &
load current will be decrease 57% as compaire to Delta
connection.
In the cause of our HT motor (11KV - 780 FLA, 14MW)drawing
arround 4250 A at the time of starting. It's just equal to
6 times of full load current. as per manufactore, it's
locked rotor current is 4280A. so just think, what will
happened if that connected in Delta!!!!!

Why not we connect HT Motor in Delta also.i am working like
this type of motors only. But starting current has 6 times
of the full load current for our motors. it may decrease
and increase as per IS ( depending on the Capacity also ).

If we connect HT motor in Delta connection then the voltage
in winding will equal to line voltage.

I think the H.T. motor is connected in star, to take its
grounding point.

What is the maximum allowed kwa through 2.5mm cable. Electric company installed 2 electric meter at my premises . Two jumper wires of 2.5 mm are used to connect . 2 single phase meters with allowable load 6 and 3 kwa. These jumper wires are taken from a 3 phase electric meter. Meters are in open Sun. What max load these wires can take.
