Pile foundation is a type of deep foundation where piles are sunk deep into the ground at depths upto 30mtrs or more also.
The main reasons for such a foundation type can be i)very high loads that a single footing or pile can bear alone or ii) due to low bearing capacity of the soil.
The piles bear loads both by the frictions gained from their surface and also due to bearing capacity of the soil at the particular depth.
