What is the difference between MCB & MCCB, Where it can be used,..

Answer / ramesh gaur

MCB is miniature circuit breaker which is thermal oprated
and use for short circuit protection in small current
rating circuit. MCCB moulded case circuit breaker and is
thermal operated for over load current and magnetic
operation for instant trip in short circuit condition.under
voltage and under frequency may be inbuilt. Normally it is
used where normal current is more than 100A.

What is the difference between MCB & MCCB, Where it can be used,..

Answer / sukhraj cheema

THE MAIN DIFFERENCE B/W MCB(MINIATURE CIRCUIT BREAKER) &
MCCB(MOULDED CASE CIRCUIT BREAKER) IS THAT AN MCB IS USED
FOR SMALL CURRENT RATING WHILE AN MCCB IS USED FOR HIGHER
CURRRENT RATING.ONE MORE DIFF IS THAT MCCB HAS HIGHER SHORT
CIRCUIT BREAKING CAPACITY THAN MCB.WHILE BOTH ARE USED FOR
SHORT CIRCUIT PROTECTION & OVER LOAD PROTECTION.

What is the difference between MCB & MCCB, Where it can be used,..

Answer / balakrishnan

MCB is normally used for small loads like in DBs, MCB can
only protect loads from over current, it is available upto
100A.
MCCB is having some special characteristics over MCB. It
protects loads from over current, short circuit current and
earth fault protection. Moreover it is available in all
ranges (16A to 3200A).
MCBs are used mostly in DBs, MCCBs are used for all SMDBs
and MDBs.

MCB - MINIATURE CIRCUIT BREAKER
MCCB - MODULE CASE CIRCUIT BREAKER
MCB RATING : 63 AMP (MAXIMUM) i.e. in the form of tpn(
THREE PHASE + NUETRAL)
MCCB _ 63AMP (min.)
MCB IS USED WHERE LOAD IS LOW BUT MCCB IS USED WHERE LOAD
IS HIGH AND USE AS INCOMER.WHILE THE MCB IS USED FOR
OUTGOING.

What is the difference between MCB & MCCB, Where it can be used,..

Answer / venkatesh

* M.C.B. is the abbreviation of Miniature Circuit Breaker
and the M.C.C.B. is the abbrteviation of Moduled Case
Circuit Breaker.
* MCB can used low current circuit not more than 100A but
we can use the MCCB in high current ares more than 100A.
* In MCB, trip point cant able to change but in MCCB we can
chnage.

These are the main differnces b/w MCB and MCCB.

What is the difference between MCB & MCCB, Where it can be used,..

Answer / prakesh kumar

MCB mean "Main Circuit Breaker", meaning the primary
circuit breaker in a group or panelboard / switchboard. In
IEC world, it means "Miniature Circuit Breaker", typically
a DIN rail mounted circuit breaker in a small format that
is limited to 100A, and is intended for use in
installations with low fault current capacity (under 25kA)
unless protected by upstream fuses. In NEMA world, these
devices entered under special rules adopted by UL (UL1077)
and are called "Supplementary Circuit Protectors" because
they did not meet the criteria already established
for "circuit breakers" under UL489. In recent years, many
manufacturers have come out with special versions that do
now meet the UL489 standards for circuit breakers, so the
term MCB has taken on a dual meaning. So in NEMA world, the
acronym MCB now has contextual relevance. MCBs /
Supplementary Circuit Protectors are sealed units that can
be neither maintained or repaired, they are throw-away
devices.

MCCB Was originally an IEC term meaning Molded Case Circuit
Breaker, but has been very well adopted in NEMA world now,
at least at the engineering level. Many rank and file
electricians still are not familiar with that acronym
because its widespread use in NEMA world is fairly recent.
MCCBs generally range from 15A to 1600A, with a few
exceptions at either end, and generally start at 14kAIC but
go up to 100kAIC for applications with high fault current
capacity. There are versions that are Current Limiting (CL)
as well. MCCBs are typically sealed units and cannot be
serviced, although in larger sizes there are versions with
interchangeable parts that can be replaced such as trip
units and switch bodies.

Addition to the above answers :
Now a days MCB' are avialble till 125 Amps too.

Many of distribution board use MCB as as both incomer and
out going. Normally recommended for three phase input and
single phaseout put , though it is used for 3 phaseinput &
out put.

Another important factor in MCB is it's breaking capacity
is limited up to 16 kA only though earlier it was limted
up to 9 and 10 kA only.

Answer / gaurav khanduja jaipurrrrrrr

MCB- MINIATURE CIRCUIT BREAKER
IT Trips the circuit in case of short circuit, over load
but not in earth leakage condition.
now in market mcb maxium rating is 100A

MCCB- Modular Case Circuit Breaker
It Trips the circuit In every Faulty Condition
Like- Short Circuit, Over Load, Earth Leakage Condition
it comes in the market From 40A
