inverter: The proper meaning of inverter is a device which
converts dc into ac.
The inverter also contains a battery unit and an dc to to ac
conversion unit. when the power fails the inveter will
deliver power from switching from main source to battery
source. The switching time here is normally greater than 20 ms.
UPS: The proper meaning of this is a device, which delivers
power, even if the source power fails(Uninterrupted power
supply).
This is also contains the same thing as a inverter except
here the switching time from main source to backup source is
less than 10ms, so that the computer hard drives or an
sensitive power products should not be affected from this.
Depending on the switching time there is a online ups and
offline ups. off line ups is same as a inverter.

UPS-Uninterrupted Power Supply,It consists the Charger
and the Invertor Section.Mainly it is Two types.Off-Line
and On-Line.
Invertor This is moreall as same as Off-Line UPS.

ups means uninterrupted power supply. it has battery
unit, convter unit and inverter unit.when EB power fails
battery unit give the supply(DC)to the inverter unit ,this
unit change the DC SUPPLY TO AC SUPPLY.

Answer / pravesh
the difference between the inverter and ups is that in
inverter it converts dc voltage into ac voltage by using
battery while in ups as the name suggests that un-
interrupted power supply it works even when the supply is
there but there is interruption due to sinusoidal wave
which creats distortion in electronic equipments working
hence ups maintains the power supply level .

BOTH UPS AND INVERTER HAS A BATTERY
BOTH GIVES POWER WHEN UTILITY(MAINS)FAILS
BUT THE MAIN DIFFERENCE IS >>>>>
1. COST OF UPS IS MUCH HIGHER THAN INVERTER BECAUSE
2. INVERTER IS NOT ALWAYS IN PICTURE IT OPERATES ONLY WHEN POWER FAILS FIRSTLY (AC- DC -BATTERY UPTIL IT CHARGES)
WHEN MAINS FAILS (BATTERY -DC -AC -LOAD)
BUT IN UPS(AC-DC-BATTERY -DC-AC - LOAD)
BOTH THINGS ARE SAME, BUT THE MAIN THING IS THAT IN UPS
BATTERY REMAINS IN OPERATION CONTINUOUSLY
3. INVERTER DOES NOT PROVIDE AS MUCH PROTECTION AND PURE SINE WAVE AS UPS(LIKE SPIKES,SURGE,SAG,RUGGEDNESS,HARMONICS DISTORTION,TRANSIENT,PURE POWER SUPPLY,LINE NOISE,FREQUENCY VARIATION ETC)
4. WHEN POWER FAILS CHANGEOVER TIME IS MORE IN INVERTER SO THE SENSITIVE LOAD LIKE COMPUTER REBOOTS
BUT IN CASE OD UPS NO CHANGEOVER

1. UPS, standing for Uninterruptable Power Supply, is an
electric circuit (device) which instantly backs up power
supply for a gadget. On the other hand, inverter is circuitry
which converts AC to DC and stores in the battery.
2. Inverter converts DC power (stored in its battery) to
fulfill respective requirements of the devices.UPS does the
similar task of power supply and is quite similar to
inverter’s working in order to supply power.
3. Inverter has a wider range of input power as compared to UPS.
4. UPS circuitry is far more sophisticated than that of
inverters.
