Answer / bhanu mahesh
A ton of cooling capacity is the amount of cooling that
would be provided by melting a ton of ice. Thus, a central
air conditioning system that is rated as a 2-ton system
would provide the same cooling as melting two tons of ice
per day (24-hour period).
Ton vs BTU
A ton is equal to 12,000 BTUs. Thus, a 2-ton air
conditioner is equivalent to a 24,000 BTU air conditioner

Answer / rajan s.k.
It is equivalent to the production of cold at the rate at
which heat is to removed from one US tonne of water at 32 0
F to freeze it to ice at 32 0 F in one day or 24 hours, and
is denoted as TR
Thus
1 TR = (1*2000 lb * 144 But/lb) / 24 hours
= 12,000 Btu/Hr
= 200 Btu/min

1TR-
"The amount heat required to extract from 1000kg of water
to convert it into ice,in 24 hrs from 0 degree water to 0
degree ice.
1TR = (1000Kg * 335kj/kg)/(24*60*60)
= 3.8kw
= 3.5kw

The tonnage is shortly called as Ton which is the unit of
measurement. It measures the amount of cooling capacity of a
system. One ton of cooling is based on the amount of heat
needed to melt one ton (2000 lbs.) of ice in a 24 hour
period. One ton of cooling is equal to 12,000 Btu/hr.

Answer / harshal v.p.o
1 tonne AC : it is the capacity of the compressor of Air
Conditioner, which can remove the heat generated in the
particular room, such that the amount of heat is equivalent
to melt a block of 1 tonne ice in 24 hours.
Latent heat of ice= 144 BTU
1 TR= 144 X 2000
= 288000 BTU/24
For 1 hour
If you dividing by 24
288000/24=12000BTU
Thank You
