a pipe?

Answer / jayaa
liquid always flow due to the density difference & not due
to the pressure difference.

we can heat the pipe (if possible) at certain location and
check the temperature on two sides of that point of heating
significantly far away and then the direction of fluid flow
would be in that direction where the temp. is higher.

it is not only due to pressure hesd nor the potential had NOr the kinetic head.
it depends on total energy of the fluid at the particular section.
always any flow can takes place from higher energy to lower energy only. so we must use bernouli equation to determine the direction of flow,

actually guys we r given a solid pipe
in vich water is flowing.
so we want to know the direction.
or we want to know which end is a high pressure
end..............

concepts of pitot tube manometers entropy etc are good in a controlled conditions but without disturbing the flow or destroying the pipe only two things come to my mind ie either
by touching the pipe difference in temp at two places(it will
decrease in direction of flow )or ultra sound imaging of the
liquid

See whenever there is any motion , that motion is from higher energy to lower energy . This is also the case with fluid flowing through a pipe . But while flowing through there would be some losses like frictional losses. So net energy is reduced. So what we can do is that we can apply a bernaulli equation to know the flow as it represents the net energy or net head. Bernaulli requires pressure head and velocity head . So if the cross section of the pipe is same we can then the velociy head would be same and we can directly compare the pressure head and if cross section is different then we hav to calculate both pressure head and velociy head and also gravitaional head if needed. And then we can compare the total head and find that where ever the total head is less the flow is toward that side.

connect a u-tube manometer to pipe.at high pressure side
mercury will drop.and as we know liquid flows from high
pressure to low pressure side,so direction will be known.

whatever the liquid flowing at any direction high head to low head and low head to high head but the pressure applied is only one head this high head or low head but liquid flowing the low pressure head confarm
