Why the suply frequency in INDIA is 50HZ

Answer / technic man
Simply Because the generators which are used from the
beginning of build a system , have a standard output
frequency 50HZ so all equipments and instruments you want to
supply it must have a standard freq. 50HZ
And if the generators have a standard output freq. 60Hz , so
all instruments also must have input frequency 60HZ.
that's the idea
And it has no relation with any technical issue

Every electrical equipment need rated voltage & fequence If
this frequency changes, the equipment doesn't work.
so,standardization should be required.In other country 60
Hz is the standard frequency But In india 50 Hz is the
standard frequency.

Synchronous generator will have maximum efficiency in a particular range of speed 3000-3600rpm,we have
supply frequency, f=pn/120,
where p=no of poles, n=rotating speed in rpm,
The generation at this high speed is possible with 2 no of poles, so the frequency at 3000rpm is f=2*3000/120 = 50hz and the frequency at 3600rpm is f=2*3600/120 = 60hz so the generation at higher efficiency is possible when the supply frequency is in the range of 50hz to 60hz, in India 50hz is the standard frequency.

this is bcoz from past designed systems our genset, turbine, all control and transmission systems designed for stable with 50HZ ,as other countries they use 60HZ and 110Vac,, we also can do, but we have to change whole the system,, and it includes huge cost,,

There are 3 types of losses constant n variable (dependent
on frequency) so if d frequency is increased variable losses
will increase. Also at higher frequency heating up of cables
can also take place.
