why in some cases the receiving end voltage is higher than the
sending end voltage in transmission line (called 'Ferranti
effect') ????? whts the reason behind tht???

why in some cases the receiving end voltage is higher than the sending end voltage in transmission..

Answer / xavier

This effect is due to the voltage drop across the line
inductance (due to charging current) being in phase with
the sending end voltages.

The Ferranti Effect is a rise in voltage occurring at the
receiving end of a long transmission line, relative to the
voltage at the sending end, which occurs when the line is
charged but there is a very light load or the load is
disconnected.

why in some cases the receiving end voltage is higher than the sending end voltage in transmission..

Answer / nithi

ferranti effect mainly occurs in uncompensated long
transmission line during light load or no-load
condition.the main reason for this effect is production of
virtual capacitance b/w the line & earth i.e charging
current.this leads to the high voltage build-up in the
trasmission line.
