Answer / naren
transformer having two kind losses .core losses and copper
losses . former depend on voltage while latter on current
so that why transformer rating is in KVA .

Answer / vikram chandorkar
as we know that every electrical machine is having losses..transformer is having two kind of losses i.e core loss which generally depends on voltage and other is copper losses (i.e I2R losses)which depends on current.hence transformer rating is given in kVA

transformer is designed to supply full load current,that
means it is independent of load power factor.so it is in KVA
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 1 Yes | 2 No |
1.Power factor of the load in not defined in case of
transformer, so it is not possible to rate transformer in KW.
2. The losses (Copper loss and current loss) of the
transformer depends on current and voltage not on load.
3. Transformer is not a load and having no effect on PF and
its only transfer the constant power from one voltage level
to another voltage level without changing frequency.

because of transformer winding losses
winding loses are a reactive power reactive power is add
in active power so the rating of T.F in KVA
KVA = Apparent power
KVA =KW+KVAR
Apparent power =Active power+reactive Power

Answer / elango
the manufacturer does not know what type of load will be
used by user(it may be resistive ,capacitive , or
inductive) so it is all dependent on power factor. so only
it is rated in VA or KVA
