In india maximum permissible loads (sbc) shall not exceeds 3 mpa. Further, rqd and joint spacing has a vital role in s b c estimation. A lone piece of rock may sometime shows higher ucs which may lead to misunderstanding of behaviors. In addition to this, our indian codes suggested to consider soft and jointed rock mass as soil deposit. In the stated case of sand-stone, in my opinion, it is better to adopt a sbc of maximum 50 tonnes/sq m.
