what is leading and laging please in details..

Answer / kanand078

Lagging pf-the inductive power can be generated the lagging
pf.due to the copper loss in windings..

Leading pf-the capacitive power can be generated the
leading pf.due to the leading current..

what is leading and laging please in details..

Answer / sachin b. bhoir

when the load is inductive then the power factor is lagging
and when the load is capacitive then the PF is leading. in
that case of lagging the current lag behind the voltage and
in other case the current leads the voltage. The power
consumption does not effected by the PF but the rating of
the eqpt. are generally effected with pf bcoz it has to
utilised under the capacity due to low pf.
the pf can be improved by connecting the capacitor of
particular capacity depends upon your load rating to
compensate the reactive load.

Answer / sumanth kumar b

LETS CONSIDER VOLTAGE AS A REFERENCE THEN IF THE LOAD IS INDUCTIVE THEN THE CURRENT LAGS BY 90 DEGREES WITH RESPECT TO VOLTAGE.THE INDUCTIVE REACTANCE XL=J2*PI*F*L BY THIS WE CAN SAY IT AS LAGGING.
IF LOAD IS CAPACITANCE THEN THE CURRENT IS LEADING BY 90 DEGREES W.R.T VOLTAGE CAPACITIVE REACTANCE XC= IS 1/2*PI*F*C

whenever any squirrel or a crow falls on the transformer input line then there is a big explosion and 440 volts of power is being discharged through the neutral line due to which appliances in off mode are also burned.we have earthing for the transformer as well as the bus bar chamber.why is it happening?

I find that underground strip-armoiured,4core,LT PVC cables in an earthed power distribution sytem are occasionly found in charred condition-with no trace of it except ash. Is this because of no proper earth connection/continuity (giving rising to high armour resistance)in the joint enroute or because of insufficient capability (again due to high armour resistance)of cable-armour to carry fault current or due to neglected /unprotected overloading of the cable or due to high armour currents caused by power thefts where only phase(s) are unauthorisely tapped & at the point of poer consumption earth terminal is established by burring underground a not so good earthing rod (or using an underground water pipe for the purpose)
