Brushed alternator is also called dc generator ? its true
or false ?explain it ?

I exactly does not know the right answer for it...but what I
think is ,in the alternator the AC voltage collected at
sliprings where it turns out to be ac becoz there will be
not breaks as on commutator(for DC gen/mot)
so as far as I know if the alternator consists the mica gaps
on the shaft or commutator then it acts DC gen....
but without those gaps even if we put the brushes also the
current collected at brushes will be ac only.but the only
problem is the maximum power will be wasted at the brushes.
(this is my view, tell me if it is wrong).thanking you

1stly I would like to ask, what is meant by brushed
alternator??I mean what are the physical aspects of this
machine? i.e how the brushes are connected is the rotor??
we all know that DC generator's output is DC component.
and brushed alternator-by name it self we can say that its
output is alternating component.so we can conclude that
brushed alternator is the alternating component taken from
brushes.then how can u call it as a DC generator.???!!!!

Answer / lincy
its true,if we are using brushes in alternator it will perform the function of the dc generator that is it will convert the ac voltage developed across the armature to dc and hence does perform the function of dc generator

Since armature are closed on itself, so it can be used as
the delta connected alternator if its windings are 120
degrees apart. With it addition of brushes make it a dc
generator.

how to calculate the battery AH
A 100 kVA , 400 v/250 kv testing transformer has 8% leakage reactance and resistance on 100 KVA base . A cable has to be tested at 500 kv using the above transformer as a resonant transformer at 50 hz . if the charging current of the cable at 500 kv is 0.4 A find the series inductance required . Assume 2% resistance for the inductor to be used and the connecting leads . Neglect dielectric loss of hte cable . what will be the input voltage to the transformer ?
