30*20*9 = 40*d2*h2

30*20=40*d2 then d2=15
30*20*9=40*15*x
so then x=9hrs

If the question is "how many hours should 40 men work to complete the same work done by 30 men working 9 hrs a day for 20 days?" then my answer would be,
if 30 men can finish a PIECE OF WORK in 20days then
1man's work will be 1/30for 20days and 1/30*20=1/600 is one man's 1 day work
then 40 men's 1 day's work is 40/600
and 40 men can do the work in 600/40 days=15days(working 9 hours a day)
which is 135hours(15*9)
if the work is to be completed in 20 days then 40 men should work 6.75hrs a day(135/20)

You’ve given us 40 men and 20 days:
5400 / 40 / 20 = 6.75
