To develop an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) method, one should follow these steps: 1. Instrumental setup: calibrate the ICP-MS instrument with appropriate standards for accurate mass determination. 3. Method optimization: optimize instrumental parameters like plasma gas flow rates, nebulizer gas flows, radio frequency (RF) power, and quadrupole mass filter settings to enhance sensitivity and reduce background noise. 4. Method validation: perform method validation studies, including precision, accuracy, linearity, limits of detection, and quantification as per the regulatory guidelines.
Applications of ICP-MS include elemental analysis in various fields like environmental monitoring, geochemistry, clinical diagnostics, and pharmaceutical analysis.
