1. Operation: SCRs are unidirectional switches that conduct current in one direction when triggered by a gate signal. GTOs, on the other hand, can be turned off by applying a negative voltage to their gate, making them bidirectional switches.
2. Voltage Handling Capability: SCRs typically have a lower voltage handling capability than GTOs, usually around 100V to 600V. GTOs are designed for higher voltages (up to several kilovolts) and currents (up to tens of amperes).
3. Turn-off Time: SCRs have a relatively long turn-off time, which can cause oscillations and other problems in certain applications. GTOs have faster turn-off times, making them suitable for applications where rapid switching is required.
