Will aluminum alloy like 380 or 356 settle? Meaning while in “liquid form” above melting point will the heavier elements like copper, fe, silicon, zinc etc. Settle to the bottom of the liquid/molten aluminum after a period.
Answer / Ravendra Kumar
In a pure state, metals do not settle within their own molten state because they are homogeneous and chemically similar. However, when impurities like copper, iron, silicon, or zinc are present in aluminum alloys as added elements for specific properties, they may form compounds with these heavier elements during solidification. These compounds can settle out if the molten aluminum is not properly stirred or agitated during casting.
