Explain the working of current commutated chopper with aid of circuit diagram and necessary wave forms. Derive an expression for its output voltage?
Answer / Devendra Kumar Singh
The Current Commutated Chopper (CCC) is a type of DC chopper that uses load characteristics to switch off the thyristors. The working principle involves the current flowing through the load causing a voltage drop across the thyristor, which in turn triggers its reverse recovery and turn-off. A circuit diagram would consist of a thyristor connected in series with the load and a DC supply. Waveforms for CCC include the input voltage waveform, output voltage waveform, and the load current waveform. The output voltage V_o can be derived using the following equation: V_o = (n-1) * V_in / n where n is the number of thyristors conducting at a time.
