What is the meaning of Ghosting and Unghosting in Sharepoint?
Answer / Karan Majumdar
Ghosted files are assembly files (.dll, .wsp) that exist in their original form in the file system and are not deployed to the GAC (Global Assembly Cache). Unghosting refers to the process of moving an assembly from the GAC to a web application's bin directory so it can be updated without affecting other applications using the same assembly. Ghosting is the reverse process, where an unghosted assembly is moved back to the GAC.
