A super elevation of 60 cm has been provided on a 8m wide road and a curve of 260m radius .calculate the max.speed in km/hr of the vehicle that can be negotiated safely? Plz answer with full solution.thanx

A super elevation of 60 cm has been provided on a 8m wide road and a curve of 260m radius .calculate..

Answer / Suresh Kumar

To calculate the maximum safe speed for negotiation of a curved road with super-elevation, we use the formula: v_max = √[(R * g) / (b + esin(α))], where R is the radius of the curve, g is the acceleration due to gravity (9.81 m/s²), b is the breadth of the road, and esin(α) is the product of super-elevation height and sine of angle α (which can be calculated from the vertical curvature of the road). In this case: R = 260m, b = 8m, esin(α) = 60cm * sin(γ), where γ is the angle of super-elevation (as the value for super-elevation in centimeters was given, we assume a vertical curvature and calculate the angle γ using the formula: γ = asin((es / R)). However, without knowing the value of es (vertical curvature), I can't provide a numerical answer. Nevertheless, the procedure to find the maximum safe speed is explained above.
