1. Relay is an electrical device which is used to hold the power supply or we can say that its switching device.
its working principle is electromagnetic.

Relay is used to connect or disconnect the power to a circuit without interfering the circuit supply or with an external supply
Earth connection is used to ground(Nutralise) the leakage voltage to protect the operator form the shock. if operator get shock the earth connection is defined as not working.
