High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) Oil Circuit Breakers typically use one of the following types of insulating oils: Mineral oil, Sulphurized naphthalene oil, or Synthetic ester oil. Mineral oil is widely used due to its excellent dielectric properties and low cost. It may be either hydrogenated or sulfurized. Sulfurized mineral oil has a lower viscosity than hydrogenated oil, making it easier to handle and reducing the chances of arcing. Synthetic ester oil is gaining popularity because it has better fire resistance properties compared to mineral oil.
