For a single computer processor computer system, what is
the purpose of a processor cache and describe its
operation?
Answer / Indrajeet Kumar Yadav
A processor cache is a small, fast memory used to store copies of data from frequently used main memory locations. Its primary purpose is to reduce the average time to access data by holding a copy of the data closer in both space and speed to the CPU than the data in main memory. The operation of a processor cache involves storing a subset of the most recently or frequently accessed data in a high-speed cache memory, so that it can be quickly retrieved without having to wait for the slower main memory.
