What is the major differences between RCCB & ELCB? If we use
ELCB of less sensitivity why does it trip often and can we
control it from tripping?

What is the major differences between RCCB & ELCB? If we use ELCB of less sensitivity why does ..

Answer / silas varghese

RCCB IS RESIDUAL CURRENT CIRCUIT BREAKER AND ELCB IS EARTH LEAKAGE CIRCUIT BREAKER.ELCB OF LESS SENSITIVITY TRIPS DUE TO LEAKAGE CURRENT. IF WE LIGHT A BULB THERE IS SOME LEAKAGE CURRENT. THESE LEAKAGE CURRENTS ARE ADDITIVE. MEANS THE NUMBER OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENTS SWITCHED ON GREATER IS THE LEAKAGE CURRENT.HENCE LESS SENSITIVITY ELCB TRIPS.

ELCB detects earth faults that flow back through the main earth wire.WHILE RCCB disconnects a circuit whenever it detects that the flow of current is not balanced between the phase and the neutral.
