LED is a semiconductor device.LED's are used as indicating lamps in many devices.When LED is forward biased electrons are able to recombine with electron holes with in the device releasing energy in the form of Photons & this is known as Electroluminescene & colour of LED is determined by Energy gap of the Semiconductor.

lights in electronic appliances to indicate whether the circuit is closed or not. A a clear (or often colored)
epoxy case enclosed the heart of an LED, the semi-conductor chip.
