why dc is not given to transformer..

Answer / divya.malika9@gmail.com

If a rated dc voltage is applied to the primary, flux produced
in the transformer will not vary but remain constant in
magnitude and therefore emf is not induced in the secondary.
since the resistance of primary winding is quite low, a heavy
current will flow through primary winding which may result in
the burning of the primary winding.

why dc is not given to transformer..

Answer / saurabh

ITS VERY SIMPLE THAT AS WE KNOW E.M.F PRODUCES IN THE WINDINGS WHICH DEPENDS ON CHANGES OF FLUX W.R.T TIME. HERE WHEN D.C SUPPLY IS GIVEN SO NO VARYING FLUX PRODUCES & NO EMF GENERATES. SO TRANSFORMER BASICALLY WORKS ONLY ON AC SUPPLY...

why dc is not given to transformer..

Answer / sheik abdulla

as we know that transformer is working in electro magnetic
induction principle, that is alternating in nature, if we apply a d.c
source, we can't able to generate emf, so we can't apply d.c to
the transformer
