Answer / m v mehta
No, normally sulphur is removed by desulphurizer before
taking natural gas in process. So, there are no chances of
sulphur as by product after the combustion of LPG and
Natural Gas.

BIOCHEMICAL ENGINEERING INSTRUMENTATION - EXAMPLE 29.6 : In infrared spectrum, one of the factors affecting peak location is the mass of the atoms. The stretching frequency of a bond connected to a lighter atom will be greater than the same bond connected to a heavier atom. (a) For halogens like florine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I) and astatine (At), what is their IUPAC group number? Hint : The proton numbers for F, Cl, Br, I and At are 9, 17, 35, 53 and 85 respectively. (b) For the compounds of H-F, H-Cl, H-Br, H-I and H-At, which one has the lowest stretching frequency and which one has the highest stretching frequency? State the reasons.

Question 54 - There are 2 alternatives of investment. Choice 1 : A trader offers you an investment opportunity where your investment of A$15000 presently will be A$18000 after 4 years. Choice 2 : A bank offers you 5 % annual return for your initial investment of A$15000. Question a : What is the equivalent bank payment after 4 years? Question b : By using the concept of equivalence in engineering economy, which is the better choice, betwen 1 and 2, that will be more profitable after 4 years?

ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL ENGINEERING - EXAMPLE 34.18 : An investor is planning to purchase a small office for biochemical engineering consultancy on loan. In the calculation of the discount of payment in arrears, the following formula is used : y = 1 / (1 + r) ^ 1 + 1 / (1 + r) ^ 2 + 1 / (1 + r) ^ 3 + ... + 1 / (1 + r) ^ n where y = present value, r = interest rate of discount, n = number of payment, ^ = power used in certain computer languages for mathematics. (a) What is the meaning of : arrears? (b) Find a mathematical equation of y (1 + r). (c) Calculate, in less than 3 terms, y as a function of r and n.

FOOD ENGINEERING - QUESTION 23.3 : (a) In the measurement of the browning (optical density) of fruit juice at 10 day interval, the following pairs of data are obtained with time t in days and browning or optical density (OD) : t = 0, OD = 0.05; t = 10, OD = 0.071; t = 20, OD = 0.089; t = 30, OD = 0.11; t = 40, OD = 0.128; t = 50, OD = 0.149; t = 60, OD = 0.17. (i) By using Excel or other programs, determine if such browning reaction can be characterised by pseudo zero order kinetics, with strong correlations between the data pairs of t and OD. (ii) When OD = 0.24, the shelf life T of such juice is expired. Calculate the value of T. (b) Let food cost percentage = ( food cost / food sales ) x 100. If total food cost of bread and butter are $25, food cost percentage of bread is 50 % and for butter is 50 %, find the total food sales of bread and butter.
