ALE IS ADDRESS LATCH ENABLE means to give 8 bit address at
the output with the help of IC 74LS373.basicaaly it is used
to give out or latch the address at the output.

Well above answer is correct but I would like to add some
thing more in a simpler way:
As mentioned ALE is Arithmetic Latch Enable. This signal
goes high whenever a new operation is started by MPU(At the
beginneing of each Machine cycle).
Bsing HIGH of this signal means that Data present at
Multiplexed (AD0-AD7) bus is Address and not Data.
It is generally for a single T-state.

ALE means address latch enable.It is used to demultiplex address and data.when it is high it will latch address and when it is low it is latch data at the output side.
