What is the difference between drill down and drill through?

Drill down means navigating the summary level to detail
level in the same report. where as drill through is
connected to different reports.

Drill DOWN means a way to filter the results to a more
detailed level from the Parent Level.
Drill UP on the other hand means to go up to a Higher
(Parent) Level from a Lower (Child) level.
There is a another term for this : SLICING & DICING (Multi
Dimesion Analysis)
Drill Through on the other hand means to drill into (get
into ) another report for getting more details. The values
from the Parent(Main) report are passed to the Child
(Detailed Report) for filter conditions.

Actually I found 4 different types of drilling mode.
Drill Down - When you move from summary level to detail
level in the same report and in the same hierarchy.
Drill Up - When you move back from detail level to summary
level in the same report and in the same hierarchy.
Drill Across - When you need to move from one hierarchy to
another.
Drill Through - When you need to get additional detail
data from the Database or from any other report.

Drill down means to navigate one level or summary level to
next detailed level.And also the next detailed level is
shown inthe same report. But drill through navigate from
one report to another report. Here we can use some
parameters and other things are needed. Drill down is
applicable for only dims data.

May be one more difference is drillup and drill down we can
applay on dimentional reports,drillthrough can applay only
on relational data.

Drill down/up is active when you have an OLAP data source
(cube or DMR) so you can drill up and down the hierarchy of
data. If your top level is a corporate organization you can
drill down to the department level and then to the employee
level if the hierarchy is setup in the cube. You can also
drill up from employee to dept to corp levels.
In a drill through you run another report by passing
parameters or data items from the host report used as
filters in the target report.

drill through report allows you to go from summary to detail. For instance: You have a financial application in which you can show the balance and profit and loss for a specific time frame. Every general ledger displays the total amount of all transactions for this specific period. By clicking (Drill through) on one of the general ledgers you will see the underlying transactions for this specific period.
A drill down reports allows you to look to the data in different levels. For instance, a report displays information on Country level if we drill down the report displays information on state level. Next drill down will display information on city level. So Countries contains States, States contains Cities. So we can view all levels through drill down.
Another examples is Year contains Months, Months contains Weeks, Weeks contains Days, Days contains Hours, Hours contains Minutes.

Drillthrough: It will navigate from summary to detail
report. (i.e Navigate from 1 report to another report.)
Drilldown: It will navigate from detail to summary level
information with in the report.

I have Date,product,Quantity_Sold columns and I want Product, MTD(month Till date),YTD(Year Till Date) as output. Can anyone help me with the logic in getting MTD i.e quantity sold from 1st of this month to till date (i.e. 01- 11-2013 to 26-11-2013) and YTD i.e QTD sold from 1st date of the year to till date(i.e. 01-01-2013 to 26-11-2013). Hi, I got a requirement wehre in in a drill through report , in parent report i have a column of numbers on which i have to apply drill through to child report.The condition is in that column if the number ia not zero the drill through link should appear (i.e., 1 to 9) if its 0 or negative number link should not appear.
