what is the difference between conformation and
configuration?
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Conformation refers to the spatial arrangement of
substituent groups that are free to assume different
positions in space without breaking any bonds because of
freedom of bond rotation.
configuration denotes spatial arrangement of organic
molecule that is conferred by presence of double bonds
around which there is no freedom of rotation.

conformation is the spatial arrangment of atoms in a
molecule that come from free rotation of atoms about a
single bond. It can be changed without breaking single bond.
configuration is the spatial arrangment of bonds and can be
changed only by breaking bond s.

Relative to polymer chains, the difference between
configuration and conformation is that conformation is used
in reference to the outline or shape of the chain molecule,
whereas, configuration refers to the arrangement of atom
positions along the chain that are not alterable except by
the breaking and reforming of primary bonds.

. Configuration refers to the order that is determined by
chemical bonds. The configuration of a molecule cannot be
altered unless chemical bonds are broken and reformed.
Conformation refers to order that arises from the rotation
of molecules about the single bonds. Free rotation around a
C-C single bond of an organic molecule gives conformations
or rotamers.

CONFIGURATION:
It refers to the absolute arrangement of atoms or substituent groups in space around the atom. Configurational isomers cannot be interconverted without the breaking of one or more covalent bonds.
CONFORMATION:
It refers to the 3 dimensional arrangement of group of atoms that can be altered without breaking any covalent bonds. Rotation around single bonds allows the molecule to undergo transition between conformers.
Hope this Helps.

configuration arrangement of atoms that characterizes a particular stereoisomer or type of isomerism arises due to fix position of atoms across C=C double bond
confirmation it is a type of isomerism arises do too rotation about C-C single bond which gives different position to the atoms

Conformation are three dimensional arrangement in the space of the atoms in a molecule which are "interconvertible" by rotating around a single bond
Configuration are three dimensional arrangement in space of the atom in molecule which are "not inconvertible" by rotating around

configuration is the specific spacial arrangement of atoms in molecule.
confirmation is the different spacial arrangement of atom in molecule. It is due to the free rotation of c-c bond.
