Talk to users, developers and analysts to understand what the system is
supposed to do.
Document this understanding and get it reviewed and use this as a
substitute for the Requirements/Design documentation.

What would you do if you were asked to test a system which is unfamiliar to you has out-of-date or ..

Answer / manoj

Firstly the reason for out-of-date or inadequate
documentation needed from the Test Manager.
The Docs related to project are uploaded in client side in
certain locations. Cross verification can be done from
their.
From Testing point of view the system functionality and the
expected result can be done via Developers and the Test
Manager.
Proper Review of all the artifacts is needed so that new
Test Cases should cover the latest necessity and not the
old ones

What would you do if you were asked to test a system which is unfamiliar to you has out-of-date or ..

Answer / mohd. yusuf khan

If possible, I would like to have a talk with the stakeholders, developers and the testers who tested it previously and would build an understanding of the system. Secondly, I would do the exploratory testing to explore the requirements and flow of the system on the basis of the experience. Finally I would document all the understandings and get them reviewed to create test cases and other data to test the system.

I know functional test cases are derived from frs and system design specs. But are test cases for performance, database, boundary, relational integrity and other types of tests other than functional tests created from frs and system design specs as well? When are these test cases created? Are they in the same test plans alongside functional test cases or is their a different test plan that includes these test cases?
