differences bet. SCR & triac:

1. triac is bidirectional device, scr is unidirectional.

2. dv/dt rating of scr is higher than triac

3. scr are available at higher ratings than the triac

What is the difference in usage between TRIAC and SCR ....

Triac is nothing but triode ac switch..
In triac's output two wave forms will be obtained for both positive and negative half cycles .
This two are not exactly equal leading to harmonics.
In high power circuits the harmonics are high.
High harmonics will lead to less efficiency of the circuit so in high power circuits TRIAC can be replaced by Scr .
Scr can be used in motor control , phase control , in chargers , regulated power supplies and switches..
They are used mostly in control circuits..
Triac on the other hand cand can be used as a ac switch ..
control circuits[illumination and temperature control] ... AC switches .. and light dimmers...
