the ceiling fan can usually rotate in either direction. There is usually a switch on the unit. This allows downflow during the warm season and upflow during the winter.
The direction of rotation of a table fan is determined by the shape of the blades. A motor can be made to run in either direction but to force air to the front of the table fan, it must rotate in the direction that the blades will force the air properly.

In earlier days, the ceiling fan is very heavy and down rod pipe is connected with fan through threaded coupling and chuck nuts. When the ceiling fan starts rotating in anti clock wise direction the armature winding part take jerk in clock wise direction. This clock wise movement helps to prevent the joint getting loosen. Hence the ceiling fan designed to rotate in anti clock wise direction.

Basically there is no any difference in rotation, if you
see the both type of fan from blade side both are rotating
in clockwise direction.generally we always in doubt because
in ceiling fan we saw the fan from upper side when it not
connected with ceiling.
