OP-AMP IS BASICALLY AN IC, E.G 741 WHICH HAVE THE FOLLOWING
CHARACTERISTICS.
HIGH INPUT IMPEDENCE
LOW OUTPUT IMPEDANCE
HIGH GAIN
AN OP-AMP CAN BE USED AS AMPLIFIER AND AS A COMPARATOR.
THESE ARE ITS APPLICATION.
IN AMPLIFER MODE ITS JUST AMPLIFY THE INPUT SIGNAL.
IN COMPARATOR MODE IT IS USED TO SENCE THE TWO INPUT
VOLTAGE, ONE IS REFERANCE AND OTHER VARIES. COMPARATOR
CHANGES ITS OUTPUT STATE AS THE VARING VOLTAGE INCREADED OR
DECREASED FROM THE REFERANCE.

OP AMP is just an IC741 found in market.
Comparator is an OP AMP used in open loop configuration.
Amplifier is OP AMP in closed loop configuration
