the critical level it will damage the component.heat sinks
increases the surface area so that more heat evaporates

switching the power level from higher to lower like 230 AC
to 5 DC using 7805 the power is dissipatd in the IC itself
so it get heated and to save the IC from burning we use
heatsinks which dissipate the extra heat
