Softstarter is a Starter setup made by thyristors.
By varying the firing angle we can reduce the starting
current as we do in traditional starters.

soft stater is a kind of motor starter to reduce starting current of a motor. it softly start the motor until the motor operate at his normal RPM.

Because in tradition resistance type starter at the time of
starting the motor jerks produced, while in soft starter
motor startes sfotly without producing jerks. Also the
voltage is lower then the traditional starters.

soft starter is used to reduce the starting current by controlling the applied voltage with the use of thyristors connected in antiparallel. but speed cannot be controlled as of VFD.
once the full voltage applied at certain acceleration period, bypass contactor would be energized to avoid thyristor drop during operation.
