to determaine the insulation condition if the tan delta
value is higher than 0.7 for a transformer, then oil has to
be tested in all aspects .from the oil results we can under
stand where the insultion is weaks

Answer / sunil guru
tan DELTA test is used to determine the insulation strength of oil
to determine the break down strength, flash point, its fire point, and also to identify the moisture content of the oil
their is certain fix value for all above said......
if the oil colour changes then it may be said that it may not be suitable for large time......

Ionic traces can effect the Tan delta of insulating oil
like transformer oil.The amount of charge particle directly
proportional to the electrical properties, hence tan-delta
test essencial for Transformer oil.

My question is whether bellow formula is correct to find bus size for 46kA for 0.5 second & what is RT in bellow formula. formula to calculate the size of busbar to withstand the thermal stresses due to currents with duration of 0.2 sec to 5 sec. Sp = RT( I x I x t) / K Where Sp – is the cross sectional area of bus bar in millimeters. I - is the value of AC fault current. t - is the operating time of disconnecting device in seconds. K – is the factor depending on the material of the conductor, insulation and initial and final temperature. Value of ‘k’ for copper is 143.
