Why use only DC supply to charge batteries why not AC

because, when a.c supply is applied to a battery , the
battery gets charged during the positive half cycle and
gets discharged during negative halfcycle of a,c
supply .that's why a.c supply is not suitable for charging
the batteries and d.c is suitable.
