This is to ensure that the battery cannot be connected the
wrong way round i.e +ve to -ve / -ve to +ve. This would
cause serious damage to the alternator and any other
electronic componants fitted to modern cars especialy the
engine management unit.

because higher potential side always gather the p type
material at larger quantity.the width of depletion layer
become increases hence '+ve' terminal gets thicker than
that of '-ve' terminal width.due to electron losses and
charge flow cycle its widh decreases.
