if we apply any wave form other than sine wave to the transformer the output is spikes due differentiation and devices dont work for those spikes and damage all home appliances so we use sine wave only

(i) After integration and differentiation, the characteristics of sine wave is not changed. If input to inductor is sinusoidal ac of 50 Hz then its output will also be sinusoidal of same frequency. Similarly for capacitor.
(ii) Addition and subtraction of two sine wave will be sinusoidal
(iii) Capability to produce rotating magnetic field
(iv) Compatible with the transformer, step-up or step-down

Fourier series is expressed in terms of sine and cosine which is for analysis and also a sine wave can be easily converted into any other waveform.

The reason is that electromechanical alternator outputs sine-wave AC.The voltage produced by the stationary coils by the motion of the rotating magnet is proportional to the rate at which the magnetic flux is changing perpendicular to the coils (Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction). That rate is greatest when the magnet poles are closest to the coils, and least when the magnet poles are furthest away from the coils. Mathematically, the rate of magnetic flux change due to a rotating magnet follows that of a sine function, so the voltage produced by the coils follows that same function.

It is easy to find
out phase difference
or phase angle in
sine wave than other
wave so sine wave is
used rather than
other wave

Answer / mahesh
the nature of sine wave is exponentionally
increasing&decreasing,we know that any system components
can have some cutin voltage regions ,in that region the
system accepts slow +ve&-ve increasing&decreasing
sigals,every system contains semicondutor devices,because
of non linearity property of semiconductor ,the sine wave
has the same property.so it can be used.

actually the design of alternator which give power to us in
only for sinewave or cosine wave, bt when v use to generate
cosine wave only 3/5 of angle can rotae smooth...... coz
wile 2nd phase start it neutralise second so no resultant
force will be there for generation of power............

We use only sine wave as the voltage or current in A/C
system is continuously varying i.e reducing or increasing
at every small interval.
