Answer / apu chatterjee

60hz transformers cannot be operated at 50hz service due to higher loss and resultant heat rise.

Why Power generation in India is at 50Hz while in America its 60Hz so is there any advantage/Disadv..

Answer / mahesh kumar yadav

according to the the formula n=120f/p, we can only obtain
the frequency of 60 hz,if the number of pole is 2.5 so usa
is able to developed 2.5 pole machine but india cannot.SO
don't think why power generation in india is at 50 hz while
in america its 60 hz.THINK THIS THAT WHO TO MAKE 2.5 POLE
MACHINE?

Answer / parminder

i m not agree with MULLU. coz if this the only reason then
the distribution cost will increase due to bigger conductor
size & insulation

Why Power generation in India is at 50Hz while in America its 60Hz so is there any advantage/Disadv..

Answer / deepak kumar

For the same supply ,IN US FREQUENCY IS 60 HZ,DUE TO THAT
all the EQUIPMENTs ARE RUNNING WITH (60-50)/50*100 i.e 20%
higher SPEED as compared to INDIA.now if N would be higher
(w=2pief),generated emf wld be more;

i.e for the same supply ,but for different frequency ;the
generated e.m.f wld be more.

Why Power generation in India is at 50Hz while in America its 60Hz so is there any advantage/Disadv..

Answer / akhil

If frequency is high then losses are more
as we know that hysterysis loss
ph=k*B^1.6*f and eddy current loss
pe=k*B^2*f^2
so
the transformers produced in India can be used there too
but transformers designd there cannot be used here

Why Power generation in India is at 50Hz while in America its 60Hz so is there any advantage/Disadv..

Answer / dheeraj

i think there is no technical reason behind the generation
of power at 50Hz in India and 60Hz in America. It is just
the standardization of country. America firstly designad
their equipments at 60Hz and after that India and other
countries designad their equipments at 50Hz.

Why Power generation in India is at 50Hz while in America its 60Hz so is there any advantage/Disadv..

Answer / vishvesh

well, for the safety reason of the consumer in the US, they
decided to kept voltage level at 110V a.c. at the consumer
end. but to avoid distribution loss and over heating of the
conductors they kept frequency of AC supply at 60 Hz. to
reduce that losses.

This is reqd for a 1MW Solar power plant..We have 2DC outputs from the solar panels Connected to 2INVERTOR panels.. Output from invertor is 3ph,280v,500kva,50hz.These are connected to individual ACB.This has to be stepped up to 11KV ,1250KVA SYSTEM.Now can I use (1) one more ACBTO GIVE A COMBINED OUTPUT OF 1000KVA,280V & STEP UP THE OUTPUT BY USING a single two winding 3 ph transformer 11kv/1250kva. or (2)use the two outputs and connect to one three winding transformer of above rating..Pls suggestwith details.
