what happen when dc shunt motor field is sudden open in
running condition

Answer / manish kumar
For a dc shunt motor if field is suddenly opened, no
current flow so no flux and no magnetic field..so according
to MOTOT PRINCIPLE...conductor experiences torque only if
it is placed in magnetic field...hence the speed of motor
decreases slowly due to inertia and finally it stops.

actually in case of dc shunt motor whenever the shunt field coil is open then total flux thats mainly created by the shunt fild winding is become zero then speed become dangareously high so the machine is burn out during the running condition.

Is field is open.. Then whole current is flow in armature winding and we knoe that flux of dc shund moter become zero . Due to high current armature produce high speed so moter stare running in high speed condition but moter winding made for a particular current rating..... If we give a high current in armature then temp. Of winding increase and there is a possibility to insulation break down and armature winding may burn.....👍

If shunt field opens the residual magnetism direction will
reverse due to domination of armature reaction and motor
will move in reverse direction.

when dc shunt motor operates at normal conditions the speed
is constant.and when ever a suddenly field is open, the
field winding is having inductive property so it does not
allow sudden changes in current.open ckt means current
zero.and the rotor(armature) is continue its running
condition because it is connected to generator rotor
shaft.but we know when a current carrying cunductor is
placed in a rotating magnetic field ,it cuts the magnetic
field and emf is induced.but when field is open no current
carrying current is there in that ckt.so no emf is
induced.we know emf is proportional to speed.so speed
decreases .

when the motor is under running condition suddenly the
field is open the motor will not stop.
because field is open means the field current is zero but
shunt motors are self excited motors so due to resudual
magnetism the speed of the motor will be decrease.
