core in the transformer used as pathway for flux between
primary and secondry which is made up of silicon steel to
provide low reluctance path to magetic circuit

1.core provides just a path to transfer flux from one winding to other winding (i.e primary to secondary)
2.so, can we use plastic as a core..??
ans: yes.. but it draws more exciting current to produce voltage by transferring flux from primary to secondary (just similar to air core)..
3.how to reduce exciting current..?
ans: by using low reluctance material as a core so that flux can easily pass through it.. ex: iron core, silicon steel etc..,

Core is only used for reduce the losses, because when we provide power supply on primary coil, after some time heat loss will occurs in both windings, and to reduce the heat of windings we de iron loss.
And the heat of the windings transfer in iron core and both windings are safe.
And for reduce the iron loss we use some cooling techniques, I.e. oil, ducts, fan etc.
That's why transformer also safe.
NOTE:- Transformer can be design without any core but losses will more occurs and windings can melt.

the core in a transformer induces an emf from the primary
coil into the secondary coil and dependant on the number of
windings in each coil will either step the output voltage
up or down

core provides low reluctance path for the magnetic field hence there is no leakage of flux and hence eddy current losses are decreased

it just for balancing the coil and transfer the flux from primary to secondary winding as per posssible

It use to produce flux , if we do not use core, mutual induction is not possible. it use to transfer voltage from primary to secondary

Answer / amin ur rehman
transformer is incomplete without core, because core connets the primary and secondary through magnetic flux.

Transformer is working on mutual induction based. The role
of core is to reduce the eddy current & hystresis losses.
