Answer / raskepta sia
in impulse turbine the pressure of flowing water remains unchanged and is equal to the atmospheric pressure but in reaction turbine the pressure of flowing water is reduced after gliding over the vanes.
in impulse turbine water may be admitted over a part of the circumference but in rxn turbine the water must be admitted over the whole circumference of the wheel.
it is possible to regulate the flow of water without loss i impulse turbine but it is not possible to regulate the flow without loss.

The term impulse and reaction denote the basic type of turbine. The basic and main difference between impulse and reaction turbine is that there is pressure change in the fluid as it passes through runner of reaction turbine while in impulse turbine there is no pressure change in the runner. In the impulse turbine first all pressure energy of water convert into the kinetic energy through a nozzle and generate a high speed jet of water. This water jet strikes the blade of turbine and rotates it. In the reaction turbine there is pressure change of water when it passes through the rotor of turbine. So it uses kinetic energy as well as pressure energy to rotate the turbine. Due to this it is known as reaction turbine. -

in the impluse turbine pressure drop takes places only in
nozzle where as in the reaction turbine pressure takes
palaces both in nozzle ann blades van... so for thta reason
cross section of the tubine from inlet to outlet keep
constant in impluse turbine. and will vary in rection
turbine.......

In impluse turbines, the chemical energy of the gas/steam
is converted to kinetic energy only in nozzle i.e. pressure
drop is only through nozzle. In reaction turbine, the
pressure drop is across both (turbine nozzle and buckets).
Impulse turbines buckets (blades) will ony transfer energy
whereas in reaction turbine buckets, both energy transfer
and transformation takes place
