converter is used to convert ac to dc whereas inverter is used to convert dc to ac.supply used in converter is ac & for inverter supply is dc.

Converter is converting the AC to DC and this DC is stored in a Battery then the stored DC supply is forwarded to Inverter to convert the AC Supply . When the AC Supply is failed the battery id feeding the DC Supply to the inverter for providing AC supply up the energy stored in the cell.
