What is the proportioning by weight of 1:2:3 concrete mix
design of cement, sand, gravel, and water in metric for a 3000
PSI concrete strength and a target slump of 75-100mm?

What is the proportioning by weight of 1:2:3 concrete mix design of cement, sand, gravel, and wate..

Answer / rajesh.d.v.s.p.

3000psi means M20 grade concrete
the ratio of m20 concrete is 1:1.5:3

total volume=1+1.5+3=5.5
total volume ingredients for using =1.57
Volume of broken stone Require = (3/5.5) x 1.57 = 0.856 m3
Volume of sand Require = (1.5/5.5) x 1.57 = 0.471 m3
Volume of cement = (1/5.5) x 1.57 = 0.285 m3
= 0.285 x1440 = 411 kg
For 1m3 of M20 (1:1.5:3)
Broken stone = 0.856 m3
Sand = 0.472 m3
Cement = 8.22 bag

What is the proportioning by weight of 1:2:3 concrete mix design of cement, sand, gravel, and wate..

Answer / awadhoot

3000 PSI concrete strength equals to 20 N/Sqmm.
characteristic compressive strength of concrete.

Now refer to Table 9 "Proposrtions for Nominal mix
concrete", on Page no. 23 of IS 456:2000.

Here, for M20 grade concrete, the total quantity of dry
aggregates by mass per 50 Kg of cement is given as 250 Kg.

Considering proportion of fine to coarse aggregates as 1:2,
Fine Aggregates can be calculated as 83 Kg. Say 100 Kg, then
coarse aggregates will be 150 Kg.

Quantity of water per 50 kg bag of cement can be allowed up
to 30 litre to the Max. However, target slump of 75-100mm
can be achieved by following trial and error method.

Hence, for 1:2:3 proportion of concrete,
Cement:Fine Aggregates:Coarse Aggregates
50Kg : 100Kg. : 150Kg.

Here Fine Aggregates = sand and
Coarse Aggregates= gravel
