Carbon brushes are used to connect external circuits in a
motor or any other machine to the rotor (moving part of the
machine) through the commutator. You can also say that
these brushes transfer electric current to moving part of
the motor or machine.....

Answer / ajayk
yes reason is commutation
but then .we can also use
metal brushes.why dont we
use then. Reason is 1.carbon
has high resistance which
decreases the time constant
of sparking transients during
commutation,so less sparking
and 2.they are cheap too and
long lasting.

a)In a 3-phase 4-wire circuit, a circuit breaker is selected to protect the circuit whose highest fault level is 6.6 MVA. Determine the required minimum breaking capacity in kA. (Note: Covert 3-phase power in terms of kA to find answer.) b)Using the below, determine the required minimum making capacity in kA as a “peak value”. Rate breaking capacity (Icn) ka: Icn<= 1.5 Factor = 1.41 1.5

When i went to a interview the interviewer ask me a question for that i cant able to answer him if anyone knows answer me How will you design a capacitor bank for a plant? if my p.f is 0.6 i have to improve it to 0.9 or 1 what kind of steps i have to do? and is there any formula for calculating this?
A 6-pole, 50 Hz, 3-phase synchronous motor and on 8-pole, 50 Hz, 3-phase slip-ring induction motor are mechanically coupled and operate on the same 3-phase, 50 Hz supply. If they are left open-circuited, then the frequency of the voltage produced across any two slip rings would be
