EMF means Electro motive force
the induced EMF in any closed circuit is equal to the time rate of change of the magnetic flux through the circuit

When a core is surrounded by primary and secondary coil ,when current is allowed through the coil then EMF is produced

E.M.F. means electro motive force.we can simply say that voltage difference between two terminals of an isolated charged battery..E.M.F. can't be measured. Even when we go for measurement through potentiometer,it will show the potential difference between the two terminals of battery, not the E.M.F. value.
